Women Around Us: Student Spotlight with Eve !

Get to know some of the amazing women right here in our Tufts community; learn about their incredible work and valuable resources that they have shared!

Eve Abraha (she/her/hers)

A senior majoring in Biology and Education.

Fun Fact: “I'm a proud dog mom! ”

  1. Are you working on any projects within the community? If yes, what is the project and why is it important to you?

"About a year back, I realized my main goal in life shifted and that I no longer had a dream “job” rather I had a dream mission. My mission is to work to help dismantle oppressive systems that show people that they are neither cared or loved for. I want to work to dismantle these systems through a myriad of ways, primarily through equity practices within health, education, and community involvement. Understanding how home insecurities, food insecurities, and lack of exposure to love and care impacts a person’s wellbeing and life, I want to be able to provide some of these things to those who need it. This is why Igniting Change Through Compassion arose; it is a means for homeless folk who are especially dealing with drug addiction to be provided with resources and attention they deserve. Community members can re-distribute their resources and also bridge communities with this population.
About six months ago, we started cooking and delivering meals to groups of people experiencing homelessness on Massachusetts Avenue, in downtown Boston. Since then, we have distributed thousands of meals to different communities primarily in the same area. With a centralized lens of health and community involvement, we have collaborated across groups of Tufts students and Tufts Adult Learners and with Boston community members who have lived experiences with homelessness."

2. What is a cause/anything you are passionate about sharing?

"I am passionate about spreading care and love to others. To me this looks like making k-12 education equitable and better for all students. We all have to do it so why make it hell for some students? I also deeply care about redistribution of resources. Everyone deserves a nice place to live, good healthy food to eat, and genuine happiness. I try to work to be anti- capitalist and for now- I think ground work is key to doing something tangible. (ex: igniting change work) The government doesn't want to help feed low income communities? Let's buy groceries for those folks."

3. Do you have any recommendations of what we as a community or as individuals can do to support this cause and learn more?

"Give your money! Give your time! Be kinder and more compassionate to others."

4. Are there any resources you want to share about the cause?
